***Brief supporting reading from diary about natural selection, evolution and amphibious developments

1.The characters in the books have gills, which indicate that they may be of amphibious species, “went bright purple, gill tips and all” (page 57).
2.The gene tagging thing is probably an Atsumisi Heritage Clan obsession, and according to Marek T, the reason of different gene tags is due to “a big cock-up” (page 19) on the Colonial ships when they were on their way to where they lived. It is believed that “something went minorly haywire with the Cyro” (page 20) so that the test-tube embryos had a nano-variation in their epi-genes. When they were grown to fetuses, the variation resulted in the Big Three gene families – the Atsumisi, the Galrezi and the Mazzini.
3.“Why is it so good to have evolved backwards, so we can’t tolerate the seas lie our ancestors used to?” shows that since their ancestors can tolerate the seas, they have gills to be able to breathe underwater. And it also shows the evident change during evolution where they were now unable to “tolerate the sea” because they are now human, “I’m only human – it made my gills go green” (page 75).
4.“Mum’s the green carrier in our family”, “Dad is one hundred percent red” (page 81). Shows that they are not entirely human.

Evidence from Page 100 onwards

Here is the evidence from Page 100 onwards.

1. pg 99, ‘He saw the pool as it must once have been … promise of a good swim after work.’ (why does he need to swim after work?)
2. pg 100, ‘ruffling my hair and tickling my gills’ (she has gills)
3. pg 106, ‘spent 3 hrs in the pool … I didn’t have to surface again.’ (normal person CANNOT spend 3 hrs underwater without surfacing.)
4. pg 119, ‘he turned … good buzz of oxygen.’ (he get oxygen underwater?)
5. pg 121, ‘no-gill guy’ (sb without gills is considered not normal)
6. pg 122, ‘Kiw P’s … even if he is a freak.’ (no gills = freak)
7. pg 127, ‘Big Bro once … on a hot dry night’.
8. pg 138, ‘he actually said he’d sleep … swim under the stars’ (humans would not want to spend whole night in the water --- too cold and how to breathe if you sank down when you fell asleep??)
9. pg 143, ‘so that felt good, mostly. It was … fish out of water.’
10. pg 144, ‘he felt dizzy. The water … He should just let the O2 do its work.’ (he can breathe in O2 underwater)
11. pg170, ‘he tried to climb out, … couldn’t wake up.’
12. pg 173, ‘they’d been dipping … scabby and cracked.’
13. pg 175, ‘I’d trade … right now.’
14. pg 179, ‘our skins just drank it up’. (human skin don’t drink water up)
15. pg 185, ‘he opened his mouth … lungs again.’ (here is the evidence that he has lungs, and breathe using his gills when underwater)
